Oberon

8x10 inches, oil on panel. NFS.

Better photo coming soon, now that I've got some sunshine!

Last month, I had a health scare and was in a lot of pain, so the paintings had to be put on hold. But I'm back at it!

Anjou Pears (sold)

I was going to do more work on this one, but it has grown on me just the way it is. That's often one of the hardest decisions to make when painting: when to stop. Click on the image for a larger view.

Anjou Pears (in progress)

5x7 inches, oil on panel.

I am not sure that this is finished; the fabric could use more work. It's still clamped to my easel (you can see the clamps in the right corners), asking me to finish it off. Maybe when this nasty cold goes away!

This time I did a warm red underpainting. I don't always begin the daily paintings this way, but I wanted to let some of the red show through in the finished painting to warm things up. This is what lies beneath:

Kiss #2 (Sold)

5x7 inches, oil on panel. Painted on commission.

If this painting looks familiar, that's because it is! A woman saw my first kiss painting hanging in her friend's house and she had to have one of her own.

Summer Delight #2 (available)

Oil on panel, 6x6 inches.

Let's face it, summer is almost behind us. Because I'm lamenting that fact, I've decided to do a little series of summer-related paintings. Whee!

Why not start with possibly the best thing about hot weather - relaxed dress codes? On a related note, I just read the other day that there has been an alarming increase of flip-flop related injuries, so beware! (Ha, amateurs!)

This one's for you, Ginger and John!

Tonight.

That's when I'll be finishing a new painting. Look for it tomorrow... I've got to say, wearing latex gloves in balmy, humid weather is for the birds!

Also: very sorry if anyone had trouble signing up for my mailing list. Just tested the sign-up box on a whim and found that it was broken. D'oh! Fixed now.

Five Lipsticks

Oil on panel, 5x7 inches. Not for sale.

I often struggle with taking photos of my paintings (in part because I need better lighting), so this time I'm posting two! I can get a good representation of the color, but it rarely captures the texture. The texture is key in this piece, so in the second shot I've pointed a "daylight" lamp down on the painting so you can see the thick paint blobs.

Guinness Is Good for You. (Sold)

Ah, the beer that's like a meal. This one is sold, but I'll be painting more like this. Check back!

Nymph

6x6 inches, oil on panel. (Reserved)

Just finished this "study" last night (the quotes are there because it ended up far more developed than what I had planned!). This is just one part of the composition for the next version, which will be much larger and include a second figure.

This was the first time I've tried to paint a figure at this size. Let's just say I have a new appreciation for people who can paint miniatures!

Back soon...

I've been quite distracted the past 2 months. Has it really been 2 months?! New paintings will be served up, pronto...

Interview in WAN Magazine

My "fabulous shoe" and I are featured in this month's World Artist Network magazine. Take a look - fun stuff! (I'm in the "featured artists" section.)

World Artist Network Magazine, Issue #3:

PS: Keep your eye on the sky tonight for the first total lunar eclipse in 3 years. It's a gorgeous sight - the moon begins to change color, gold and then crimson, as the earth's shadow passes over it. I know ... I'm a nerd.

I Prefer Solitude (available)

6x6", oil on panel.
Introducing Junior, my studio cat. He always hangs out with me while I'm painting, so it was only a matter of time before he became an unwitting subject!

The Elusive Emu (Sold)

6x6", oil on panel.

The emu is a strange bird. First off, they're HUGE (the second largest bird alive). They make weird sounds with their neck that sound like a loud, booming drum (it probably means "Leave me alone!").

This is one of my dad's emus (a few years ago, he and my stepmom started acquiring a flock of animals). The 2 emus hang out with a miniature deer. Not something you see every day!

Orchids (Sold)

12x12", oil on canvas. Painted on commission.

The person who commissioned this painting bought it as a birthday gift for his girlfriend. Now that's a cool idea! He scored a lot of points with his significant other; she was thrilled and said she would have never expected it.

So, gentlemen, something to think about the next time you can't think of a gift idea!
